Champions League Format

Updated: January 24, 2024

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the NEAAU Girls Champions League! We are thrilled to have over 400 teams joining us this year, and we want to update you on what we have planned to make this the best champions league ever!

The schedule is now live

Our goal when creating formats is two-fold. First, we want to create competitive matches as often as possible. Second, we want to make sure your team will play a variety of different teams and clubs during the season.

Additionally, while the season is building towards the champions league finals, we hope to create more excitement each week by naming pool or bracket champions with some small prizes to celebrate your success as we go through the season! Make sure you grab your bag tags - we have unique tags for each day so players can collect the whole set throughout the season!

Formats

Large divisions will be broken up into many 8 team power pools. These have been a fantastic addition to our tournaments - each team will play exactly 3 matches and if you win all 3 you will win the bracket of 8!

You may also be in a pool of 4, 5 or 6. In each pool, you will be guaranteed 3 matches and will have a chance to win your group of 5-8 teams each day so you can earn a victory!

Movement

We will also be introducing movement up and down the ladder depending on how your team performs each day. This is in line with our goals of creating competitive matches and also varying who your team plays each week. Your team was pre-seeded and we hope you have been placed where you have an opportunity to be successful in competitive matches.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

We hope that you will find that your team is competitive each day, we hope you win a week or 2 leading up to the finals, and we hope you end your Champions League Season as excited to be part of our league as we are excited to have you in it!

Sincerely Yours,

Scott Grandpre
Director, NEAAU Volleyball

Champions League Additional Notes

U12 Divisions

U12 divisions will use a U12 height net and U12 weight ball. Some U12 divisions will have a 5 foot serving step in line taped on to the court to allow for more serves to be successfully completed. When possible, higher level U12 divisions will not use the step in line during champions league 1, 2, and 3. At the Champions League finals, no serving line will be used for the top division.

Work Teams

West 12, West 13, East 13 club, East 13 Open, East 15 Patriot, East 15 Classic, East 17 Patriot, and East 18 club divisions will not have work teams. We will ask 1 parent from each team to help keep score. This is a format we used during champions league for a few divisions last season and it allowed us to get teams back home at a reasonable time while still playing 3 full matches.

Other divisions will have normal work teams - when your team works you will be asked to provide an R2, libero tracker, 2 line judges, score keeper, and scorer.
